John Howard Pagne accurately identified a home to be ‘Home Sweet Home’. The four walls surrounding us are not just walls, they are witnesses to all mesmerizing memories we all once had. It is more than just a physical structure; It is a haven of relief, warmth, comfort and affection. Not only is it a symbol of wellness and tradition, but also our humble abode. It is secure in our mind even if it is not perfect.
A house is a mere building with bricks and walls but it is the nostalgic memories, affection and most importantly, essence of a family that transform a ‘house’ into a ‘home’. It is a place where laughter echoes, tears are shed and bonds are forged that withstand the test of time. It brings peace when needed the most. A home is a place where one finds solace in times of distress and tiredness.
Even the smallest to the smallest home can be the coziest of all because it is the feeling of love and warmth penetrating through every corner that matters, neither size nor the extravagance of its worth and luxury. In our quest for success and accomplishment, we often overlook what a lively home offers. Whether it is the amusing aroma arousing from the kitchen, or the sound of laughter of people during family gatherings, or the comfort of a familiar rocking armchair, these mundane moments turn a house into a lively and happy home.
In today’s fast paced world, we often get so entangled with our responsibilities that we overlook the importance of establishing a nurturing home environment. The biggest challenge as well as the biggest requirement, extracting quality to spend with loved ones, whether it’s spending time over dinner or sloppily lying on the couch watching cinema. These moments of togetherness not only strengthen family bonds but also serve as a source of comfort and support in times of need.
It is important to know that not all have the luxury of having a home. For many, the idea of a safe and secure home is out of reach, with many affecting factors such as poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, displacement and homelessness depriving them of their fundamental human needs. The value of a safe space can only be known by the displaced, the refugee, the one seeking political asylum. It is necessary to extend a
hand of compassion and kindness towards those who are not fortunate enough to even have a roof over their heads.
To sum it all up, for me, home is a reminder of affection, comfort and belonging that I find within its walls. Home is quite like a quiet haven of security, motivation and compassion, where I find refuge after a long and tiresome day. Whenever I stay away from my beloved home, I tend to feel extremely homesick and have the utmost desire to return home at the earliest. “The magical thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back”. This statement by Wendy Wunder proves that a home is not just a place of self-discovery and love but also a kind of fortress to freedom and warmth.
