Who wants a white house

“Misery enjoys company’’ – From time immemorial, the perception is that
‘Art is for failures’, it is meant for the ones who do not aspire to have a
stable future. Even though art is one of the most talked about
professions today, it is still surrounded by stigmas that have existed for
ages. They say ‘Who studies Art?’ with a smug grin on their face and a
STEM degree hung on their wall. The world has forgotten what real art is
and how it can transform one’s soul.
Art is everywhere around us, from the walls of your house to the
breathtaking libraries in Harvard, one can not unsee it. From poems to
painting canvases, art has diverse forms and structures but still today
none of them have been considered ‘practical’ enough to choose as a
career.
The notion is, ‘Art and earning a living do not go hand in hand’. This belief
does not fail to discourage aspiring artists from pursuing their passion,
which often leads to undervaluing the contributions of artists to society.
Young artists have been told to treat art as nothing but a mere hobby, not
something they could afford to continue all their lives. In this case, our
society does not help much, we have been told that all artists are
unstable and unreliable and that they can not be trusted.
People are tribal, they want you to be like them. However, when you turn
out to be different they pressurize you through their selfish statements.
The truth is, without artists, you would live in a white house, with white
walls, with every item in it white and there would be no design to it, no
elegance, no interest, no serenity. Even if you manage to pay the
mortgage, life would become generic.
