Online Classes in the Pandemic Situation

As an educational institution deeply committed to empowering students to reach their full potential, all the members of the SBGS family have had to reinvent themselves and adopt new strategies in these difficult times. Teachers never wavered from their responsibility and took their teaching strategies to a digital platform in order to continue to provide an intellectually engaging, learning environment.  In order to facilitate this, online classes are being conducted for the students of Classes Nursery to XII since April, 2020 over Google Meet and Google Classroom. The students and teachers have accepted the challenge of online learning gracefully.

Primary School

The curriculum designed for the Primary School students is activity based and learner centric. Not only does it lay emphasis on literacy, numeracy and language training, but also responds to the need for honing the social skills of students. Care is also taken to make the classroom transactions fun filled through an array of interesting activities.

 •  Thrust on integrated learning rather than on individual subjects
 •  Activity based method of learning pursued
 •  Children taken on field trips to places of interest such as- the Museum, the GPO etc
 •  Subjects taught are: Mathematics, Science, English, Hindi, Bengali, Geography, History, Environmental Science, General Knowledge and Computer
 •  No examination till Class II
 •  Continuous evaluation through reviews from Classes III to V 
 •  Emphasis on developing life skills
 •  IT enhanced learning

Middle School

The goal of the Middle School is to prepare students for secondary education. Academic subjects begin to evolve into ‘separate subject models’ of Secondary School where each subject is taught by a teacher who specialises in that field. Backed by the support of dedicated teachers and counsellors, special care is taken to ensure every student’s smooth transition into adolescence.

•  Use of modern pedagogy like enquiry based learning, flipped classroom, peer teaching, Frayer’s Model, self-learning through tablet classes, etc.
•  Children taken on field trips to places of interest such as BITM, Science City, Bellevue Blood Bank, Indian Museum, etc.
•  Subjects taught are: English, 2nd Language, 3rd Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, General Knowledge and Computer
•  Compulsory community service by organizing food sale to collect money for old age homes
•  Continuous evaluation through periodic tests
•  Emphasis on developing life skills
•  Ensuring a holistic development of students by honing their skills in art, dance and music and enabling them to pursue various club activities
•  IT enhanced learning

Secondary School

Secondary education aims at enabling students to meet, with self-confidence and assurance, the challenges of the Board Examinations. Their training also includes the development of character, logical thinking, clarity of speech, art of community living, cooperation, tolerance, and sense of patriotism and a sense of world citizenship.

 •  Implementation of modern pedagogy like self-evaluation for assessment, use of visual organizers to bust misconceptions
 •  Children taken on field trips to places of interest such as Jorasanko Thakurbari, BITM, Science City, Fort William, etc
 •  Subjects taught are : English, Hindi, Bengali, French, German, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Computer, Home Science (Skill-based Subject  ---  Optional), Painting (Skill-based Subject  ---  Optional)  and Information Technology  (Skill-based Subject  ---  Optional)
 •  Compulsory community service in the form of visits to KMC Schools and orphanages
 •  Continuous evaluation through periodic tests in the structure followed by the CBSE
 •  Regular remedial classes
 •  Emphasis on developing life skills
 •  IT enhanced learning

Senior Secondary

The Senior Secondary Section offers a wide spectrum of subjects to choose from. The two year integrated course offers a learning environment conducive to thorough exploration of the strengths of each student. This in turn assists them in choosing a career befitting their aptitude and skills.
