Visit to Victoria Square – Study of Adaptation in Plants

Venue: Bhaktivedanta Swami Sarovar (Victoria Square)

On Wednesday, 16th July 2025, the Science teachers of Class IV organized an educational field trip to Victoria Square to enhance students’ understanding of plant adaptations. Classes IV B and IV C visited during the CT period, while IV A and IV D went in the 1st period, each group accompanied by their respective Science teachers. Two parent volunteers, one from each section, also joined to support the supervision.

During the visit, students observed and explored various adaptations in plants. Teachers explained how different plants adapt to survive in their environments. One key feature demonstrated was the drip tip method used by some plants to shed excess water – demonstrated practically using a spray bottle on leaves. Students also compared sun-loving plants with shade-loving plants, observing the difference in leaf size, shape, and orientation.

In addition, connections were made with Geography by identifying directions using natural landmarks and the position of the sun. A quick cross-curricular link to Mathematics was introduced as students estimated the number of leaves on different trees, promoting observational and estimation skills.

The field trip concluded with a follow-up worksheet that allowed students to record their observations, reflect on learning, and reinforce the concepts discussed during the trip.

This hands-on experience greatly enriched students’ understanding of real-world plant adaptations and supported learning across subjects in an engaging and memorable way.
