World Soil Day

Soil is home to more than one-fourth of the Earth’s biodiversity.

The students of Class V of Sushila Birla Girls’ School celebrated World Soil Day during their online virtual classes. World Soil Day is celebrated every year on 5th December, aiming to raise awareness on the importance of preservation of soil health. Degradation of soil and poor soil management has become a serious environmental issue impacting the sustainability of life on Earth.

The theme of World Soil Day 2021 is ‘Halt soil salinization, boost soil productivity’ which highlights the increasing problem of soil salinization and how it affects agricultural productivity and food security. With an aim to spread environmental consciousness and develop empathy towards nature, the students celebrated this occasion by participating enthusiastically in an online ‘soil housie’ game and designed posters along with e-posters highlighting the need for conservation of the soil ecosystem.
